Two H-DNL rivals will play in the championship game at the Mt. Shasta tournament on Saturday after both won for the second time in two days in tournament play on Friday.

And both schools are off to an impressive start this season.

St. Bernard’s defeated Weed 57-45 to go to 5-0, while Del Norte defeated Etna 41-30 to improve to 5-1.

In other games on Friday, Arcata defeated the host school at the Redwood Empire Invitational Basketball Tournament in Healdsburg by a score of 55-34 to advance to Saturday’s championship game, while McKinleyville beat Middletown 44-43, also at Healdsburg.

The Tigers will play Justin-Siena in the final after a dangerous Braves team got the better of Fortuna 64-39.

The Hoopa Warriors also won on Friday, beating Fort Bragg 56-32, while Ferndale beat Trinity 46-42 and the Eureka Loggers beat Analy 57-25 to advance to the Maria Carrillo tournament championship game.

Eureka will play Sonoma at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The red-hot Crusaders hit 10 3-pointers in their win, led by junior Laila Florvilus.

The team’s leading scorer finished with a game-high 29 points, including six 3s as she continued her blistering start to the new season.

Sisters Jocelyn and Samantha Sundberg also were instrumental in the win.

Jocelyn finished with nine points, including a 3, while Samantha added eight points, including two 3s.

“The Sundberg sisters both had amazing games,” head coach Matt Tomlin said.

Hannah Finck added three points in the win.

Brooklyn Carter led the Warriors on offense in their win over Etna and finished with 17 points, while Lauren Stutes added six points and Tsinte Steinruck had five points.

At Healdsburg, meanwhile, the Arcata girls continued their unbeaten start to the new season with a fifth win in five games.

Sophomore twin sisters Tae and Mae Wolford have begun their varsity careers in style and were once again instrumental for the Tigers.

Tae had 11 points in Friday’s win and Mae added 10 points.

Senior Nora Talty also continues to impress early in the season and scored a team-high 12 points after overcoming a slow start to the game with a big second half.

“She started to find a rhythm in the second half,” head coach Charlie Espinoza said.

The Tigers won with a balanced offense.

Mayleah Jackson also had 10 points and Kyndle Eisner, who the coaches ays is “always a big time player for us,” chipped in nine points.

Junior Emmerson Brownfield also impressed and featured heavily with teammate Melanie Luh hurt.

Fortuna, meanwhile, battled hard against a Braves team that head coach Tom Chapman described as probably a top-two Division-4 team in the North Coast Section.

Kalie Chittendon scored a team-high 10 points in the loss, while teammate Emily Sauers added eight points.

“We struggled to match up with Justin-Siena’s length and speed,” Chapman said. “I’m really proud of how hard the girls played from start to finish. They never gave up and kept pressuring Justin-Siena.”

The Huskies dropped to 6-2 and will close out tournament play on Saturday.

The Hoopa girls improved to 4-3 with their third straight win.
