Crabs sweep again, as another local player makes his debut

The Humboldt Crabs head into the final week of the season with five games remaining and a record of 35-7 as they look to secure a 40-win season.

The red-hot Crabs swept all three games against the Fresno A’s over the weekend and have now won 16 of their last 17 games.

They’ll try to carry that form into August, as they prepare for two games against Seals Baseball on Tuesday and Wednesday and a season-concluding series against he Sacramento Yankees this weekend.

This past weekend, the local collegiate Sumer club defeated the A’s 19-3 in Friday’s series opener and followed that with a 7-2 win on Saturday and s 4-0 win on Sunday.

Former Eureka Logger Jackson Giacone hit a tripe in Sunday’s win and scored one of his team’s four runs.

Pitchers Nolan Long, Gabe Tanner and Brady Chavez combined on the mound for the shutout, while Andrew Crane led the offense with two of the Crabs’ five team hits.

Billy Ham also enjoyed a productive weekend at the plate and finished 2-for-3 in Saturday’s win, including a home run and a double.

Teammate Kawana Soares added triple, with Cameron Saso getting the win on the hill.

The former McKinleyville Panther, who will play at Colorado State Pueblo this coming year, allowed four hits and five walks in four innings and struck out six.

Eureka’s Myles Standish, who missed most of the 2023 high school season because of injury, returned to action and pitched one inning in relief in his Crabs debut.

Standish, who allowed one hit and one walk and struck out three, became the sixth local player to play for the Crabs this summer.

Tuesday’s game against Seals Baseball is set for 7 p.m.
