Humboldt Eagles sweep Legion doubleheader in Roseburg

The Humboldt Eagles continued to rack up the hits in a 19U doubleheader sweep at Roseburg on Tuesday.

The local all-star American Legion roster won game one 6-2 and took game two 11-5.

Big 5 MVP Cody Collins of Fortuna had a big say in the second win.

Collins finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs and also got the victory on the mound, giving up one run in 2.2 innings.

The hard-hitting Cayden Lee also continued to hit the ball well and was 2-for-3 with two triples and an RBI, while Matt Letter was 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Will Mager also made some noise at the plate and finished 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Ethan Thomas was 2-for-4 and Caden Vance was 1-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.

Rogan Bode pitched two scoreless innings to close out the game and got the save.

Earlier in the day, it was Cole Ayala who got the victory on the mound.

The Fortuna graduate gave up just two runs in five innings and struck out six, before Vance came in to throw two hitless innings for the save.

Willie Bommelyn led the offense and was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Lee was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Bode, Collins and Mager each was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The Eagles, who improved to 15-7-1, will continue a busy road trip when they play at the Eugene Tournament, which begins on Thursday.
