By Ray Hamill — The Humboldt Eagles 17U American Legion baseball team will open play at the Thomas Ticker Invitational in Susanville on Thursday night.

The four-day tournament will run through Sunday.

The Eagles, who feature some of the best high school talent in the area, are coming off an 11-0 loss to the Northern Humboldt Giants at the Redwood Fields in Cutten on Tuesday night.

Some errors and walks proved costly in one big inning as the game got away from the hosts.

However, there were several bright spots for the Eagles, including some strong performances at third base.

Sebastian Standish got the start at third and made some great plays, according to head coach Kennan Snipes, before being forced from the game with a bloody nose.

Standish also was 1-for-1 at the plate.

Alex Jimenez took over at third base and the strong defense continued with a big diving play.

Other standouts included Royce Olson, who was 1-for-2 with a double, as well as Mason Noel, who finished 1-for-1.

Jorge Lopez also had a good day for the Eagles and pitched three strong innings before the game away from them.
