The race for the Big 5 in softball will go down to the final day of action with the Del Norte Warriors and Eureka Loggers still deadlocked atop the standings after splitting a doubleheader in Crescent City on Saturday.
The Loggers took game one 4-2, with the Warriors battling back to take the second game 4-0.
Both schools will carry a 7-2 league record into the final week.
The Loggers close out with three games against Fortuna, with game one set for Washington Elementary on Wednesday afternoon, and the Warriors play a three-game series against Arcata, with game one on the road.
Eureka senior Kira Morris had 21 strikeouts over the two games on Saturday and got the win in the circle in the opener.
She allowed just eight hits over the two games.
It has been an entertaining and closely played battle between her and Del Norte’s Shay Nolan in this pivotal three-game series this week, with Nolan finally getting the win in game three after three good performances.
Nolan also allowed just eight hits over the two games on Saturday and adjusted well as the afternoon went on.
The Loggers, who are now 10-6 overall, had four hits in game one.
Bailey Brown and Maeghan Hampton each finished 1-for-3 with a double, while Morris and Zia Gee each was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Hampton and Morris each also had a hit in the second game, while teammate Mallorie Beauchamp was 2-for-3.
No stats were immediately available for the Del Norte girls, who are now 13-5 overall.
