The Institute of Combat fighters continued to make some noise in the MMA cage this month, with the Arcata-based gym enjoying a busy and successful fall.
Gabriel Smith recently won a flyweight championship in Napa, defeating his opponent with a first-round TKO in the co-main event at 125 pounds.
His teammate Stephen Vigil also had a successful trip on the same night after accepting a fight on one day’s notice.
Vigil defeated his opponent with a second-round TKO.
Vigil, who is nicknamed “Scuba Steve,” will be back in action this coming weekend, with two IOC fighters traveling to Visalia for the latest 599 Fight Night.
Teammate Dupree Stewart will also make the trip and will fight for a pair of titles at 170 pounds.
Stewart is ranked No. 15 in the state in his weight class and will fight for both the 599 and state titles.
IOC fighter Cass bell will also make his much anticipated return to the MMA cage when he competes at a Bellator event in Connecticut on Dec. 9.
