By Ray Hamill — The Corsairs are one of the hottest teams in all of California JC football and they’re getting some notice.
After routing Gavilan 55-7 at the Redwood Bowl on Saturday afternoon, College of the Redwoods is now positioned just outside the Top 25 in one state poll.
After dropping their first two games of the season, the CR men have now won seven straight and lead the teams listed just outside the California Community College Sports Information Association poll.
CR received 16 votes in this week’s poll, more than any other team outside of the Top 25.
Merced (8-1), which defeated CR on the opening weekend, is No. 25 with 24 votes.
The Corsairs, however, would likely claim a spot in the Top 25 with a victory this weekend over conference rival Feather River, which is ranked No. 12 in the same poll.
The Golden Eagles are 9-0 on the season and tied atop the American Pacific-7 standings with CR.
Both teams have identical 4-0 conference records and Saturday’s game will be a true championship showdown.
The two teams will face off in Quincy at 1 p.m.
In the other state poll (JCAB), Feather River is No. 18 and CR is seventh among the teams outside the Top 25.
