The Eureka Loggers are building some nice momentum at a crucial time of the season.

On Friday night they won their second straight game to go to 3-1, defeating Piner 42-7 in Santa Rosa.

The win sets up an intriguing matchup a week from now at Del Norte, in a showdown between the two highest ranked teams in the H-DNL.

“That game coming up will definitely tell us where we are as a football team,” head coach Mike Marcelli said. “They will be our biggest challenge to date.”

The Loggers were able to take control of Friday night’s game in the first half, opening up a 28-0 lead by halftime.

Quarterback Rogan Bode and running back Daniel Garcia-Hall both had good nights running the ball behind another strong performance by the line.

“Again, our offensive line play was good,” Marcelli said. “We ran the ball effectively all night long.”

Both Bode and Garcia-Hall had a pair of touchdown runs.

“Rogan Bode ran the ball well and Daniel Garcia-Hall did a really good job,” Marcelli said. “And we had a bend-don’t-break mentality on defense. We’ve still got some work to do.”

Garcia-Hall has grown into a key part of the team’s offense this year and has been getting better week to week.

“Daniel been a go-getter all year,” the head coach said. “He’s been a leader, he’s been tough and he just wants to play football.”

Another senior, Jamin Gilbert, also continues to play a key role at defensive end and offensive tackle and had another strong showing against the Prospectors.

“Like always, he really played very hard,” Marcelli said.

Dominic Connant also has grown into a key part of this year’s team and was outstanding at corner once again at Piner.

  1. Personally, I am proud of Mike and past EHS graduate student-athletes as head coaches, being provided the opportunities to coach at their alma mater…
