Cal Poly women get set for home opener; big news for softball

Cal Poly Humboldt Athletics – Maddie Johnson

The Cal Poly Humboldt women’s soccer team will play William Jessup in its home opener on Thursday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.

The Jacks are 0-1-1 after last weekend’s season opening road trip, losing 1-0 at Fresno Pacific and playing to a scoreless draw with Dominican.

Earlier on Thursday, Simpson will face Holy Names at College Creek Field.

Humboldt will continue its brief two-game home-stand on Saturday at noon when the Jacks host Holy Names.

The Cal Poly men’s soccer team will also be in action this week with two games in Hawaii.

The Jacks, who are 0-0-2 after a pair of ties last weekend, will play Hawaii Pacific on Thursday night and Hawaii Hilo on Sunday morning.

The Humboldt women’s volleyball team has a bye this week after going 1-2 in New Mexico last week.

The Jacks will play their home opener on Thursday of next week against Cal State East Bay at 5 p.m.

The game will also be both teams’ conference opener.

In softball, meanwhile, the Jacks announced this week that the 20th Annual Pay to Play Softball Games are set for Sunday, Oct. 16, at the Humboldt Softball Field.

The doubleheader will begin at noon, and immediately after the games the players and coaches will host a barbeque and meet and greet for participants and their guests.

The Pay to Play fundraiser is an important fundraiser for the program and the funds raised will be used to supplement scholarships and equipment.
