With the season beginning to wind down, the Cal Poly Humboldt women’s soccer team remains in a tight race for a place in this year’s California Collegiate Athletic Association tournament.
The Jacks, who are 4-3-3 in conference play (6-5-5 overall), sit ninth in the CCAA standings with three games remaining, but they are just three points off fifth place and still well in contention.
This week, they will hit the road for a pair of games on Thursday and Saturday, playing at Cal State Monterey Bay and Stanislaus State, with kick off set for 4 p.m. in both games.
Both of this week’s opponents are also in the mix for the CCAA tournament. Stanislaus is tied for fifth in the standings with 18 points, while Monterey sits just one point ahead of the Jacks.
Lats week, the Humboldt women lost against UC Merced, 1-0, and tied Fresno Pacific 2-2.
Former Arcata High and College of the Redwoods player Alia Prentiss scored against Fresno, which was her first goal of the season.
Meanwhile, it’s been a tough season for the Humboldt men, who continued to struggle last week, losing to Merced (2-1) and Fresno Pacific (1-0).
The Jacks, who are tied with Chico State for last place in the conference standings, are now 2-10-3 overall and 1-8 in conference play.
They have lost eight straight games.
The Humboldt men will also play at Monterey and Stanislaus this week.
The College of the Redwoods women were also in action this week, tying Shasta 2-2 in Golden Valley Conference play on Tuesday.
With the tie, Redwoods is now 3-8-2 overall and 1-2-1 in conference.
No scoring stats were immediately available from Tuesday’s game.
The CR women will be back in action next Tuesday, when they host Butte at 11 a.m.
