The College of the Redwoods football team will try to bounce back from a 30-24 loss to Butte when head coach Jason White and his players travel to play the hottest team in the conference this weekend.
CR had its chances to post a second straight win over the Roadrunners but came up short late in what was a competitive game at the Redwood Bowl.
After the loss, Redwoods (5-2 overall, 1-1 in conference) dropped two spots in this week’s state coaches poll, falling to No. 17.
Despite the loss, however, CR remains in contention for a conference title in what is a very competitive NorCal Conference this season.
CR has three games remaining this season, all in conference play, and all against ranked teams.
After a challenging trip to play Sierra this week, Redwoods will host Diablo Valley on Halloween, before closing out the regular season at Laney the following weekend.
Sierra (6-1, 2-0) has won six straight games and is the top-ranked conference team at No. 5 in the state, while Diablo Valley (4-3, 0-2) is No. 20 and Laney (4-3, 1-1) No. 23.
Diablo Valley which featured as high as No. 2 in the state earlier in the season, has dropped three straight games.
Butte (5-2, 2-0), meanwhile, moves up two spots to No. 8 this week.
Saturday’s game at Sierra kicks off at 1 p.m.
