Crabs close out the season with another weekend sweep

Humboldt Crabs Baseball – Saturday was mustache night at the Arcata Ball Park.

The Humboldt Crabs completed a three-game sweep of the Sacramento Yankees to close out the 2022 season at the Arcata Ball Park on Sunday.

The home team came from behind twice to win 5-2, with Caleb Ruiz getting his team-leading eighth win of the season on the mound.

Ruiz was one of four local players who closed out strong.

The former St. Bernard’s Crusader allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings and finished the summer 8-0 in nine starts with an ERA of 2.37.

For the summer, Ruiz appeared in a team-high 60.2 innings and struck out 60 batters, while walking just seven.

Another former Crusader, Garrison Finck, also closed out strong, allowing one hit in two innings of relief for the save.

Not to be out-done, former Eureka Logger Jackson Giacone continued his late season surge with another big weekend and finished 5-for-5 over the two games on Saturday and Sunday.

Giacone hit a double and also was walked three times.

McKinleyville’s Cameron Saso finished 1-for-3 in an 8-0 win for the Crabs on Saturday.

The Crabs closed out the season with a record of 36-10 and won 28 of their final 30 games since dropping six straight in mid June.
