Big weekend for Giacone, Ruiz as Crabs remain red hot

Jackson Giacone had his best game yet for the Humboldt Crabs over the weekend and Caleb Ruiz got his team-leading fourth win of the summer, as the team remained red hot with three more wins.

The Crabs stretched their winning streak to 10 straight and improved to 18-8 with a 9-3 win on Friday and back-to-back 13-5 victories on Saturday and Sunday.

Giacone, a recent Eureka High graduate, finished 3-for-4 with a walk in Saturday’s win and drove in runs in four of his five at-bats to finish with five RBIs.

The former Logger is batting .261 in his debut season with the club and his 14 walks is third best on the team.

Ruiz, meanwhile got the win on mound on Sunday to go to 4-0 on the season.

The St. Bernard’s graduate allowed eight hits and two walks in seven innings, while striking out four.

For the season, Ruiz has an ERA of 2.85 and has struck out 32 in a team-high 34.2 innings work.

Aaron Perez also had a big day on Sunday and finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs, while Anthony Karagiannopoulos was 2-for-5 with three RBIs.

In Saturday’s game, Kevin Fitzer finished 4-for-4 with a double, three runs and a pair of RBIs.

NIck Perryman got the win on the mound on Saturday.
