The Humboldt Eagles 19Us improved to 3-0 at their own tournament with a 4-1 win over the Pioneers in a well-played pitchers’ duel at Bomber Field on Friday night.

Vincent Agliolo got the win on the mound after holding the Pioneers bats hitless into the seventh inning, before giving up a lead-off single.

The Arcata graduate, who will play at Lassen next year, struck out 11 in six innings, before Aidan Dorsch came in to strike out the final three batters for the save.

Cole Ayala, who is enjoying an outstanding tournament, was instrumental at the plate, hitting an RBI double off the right center fence.

Nick Parker and Alex Gorge each also had a hit and an RBI.

The win sets up a huge Saturday night showdown against Portland Black, who are also 3-0 this week.

The winner of that game will get the No. 1 seed for Sunday’s final four, with the loser getting the No. 2 seed.

The Eagles are 22-8-1 on the summer.

Saturday night’s game will take place at Bomber Field and first pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.
