Crabs rediscover their mojo after a tough recent road trip

Humboldt Crabs Baseball – Kelan Scanlon delivers. pitch during Sunday’s 6-4 win over the Sacramento Saints.

By Ray Hamill — The Humboldt Crabs will try for a seventh straight victory when they take on the Solano Mudcats at the Arcata Ball Park on Wednesday night, and a recent six-game losing streak suddenly seems like a distant memory.

The Crabs, who had a Tuesday night game rained out, defeated the Mudcats 10-5 in a July Fourth showdown on Monday.

And team manager Robin Guiver believe the team has rediscovered its form after a difficult road trip two weeks ago.

“We definitely had a tough road trip and we lost some games I felt we should have won, and that was frustrating.” Guiver said. “It was nice to get back home and get back on track.”

The difference, according to the longtime club manager, has been mostly felt at the plate.

“I think our offense is clicking right now,” he said. “Guys who were struggling are stepping up. I’m happy with how we’re playing right now.”

During their six-game winning streak, which has included wins over the Silicon Valley Sharks, the Sacramento Saints and the Mudcats, the Crabs have scored 67 runs, an average of more than 11 a game.

Players like Javier Felix and Colby Lunsford have led the way during the recent surge.

Felix is batting a team-best .439 at the plate, while Lunsford is batting .429.

Wednesday’s game with the Mudcats is set for 7 p.m.

After a day off on Thursday, the Crabs will host Menlo Park in a three-game weekend series which begins on Friday night.
