Watch party planned at Fortuna High for college World Series

By Ray Hamill — It’s not every week one of your former players gets to play in the biggest softball games of the year, and the Huskies are going to enjoy the occasion.

This past week, former Fortuna pitcher Hailey Dolcini became the first player from the H-DNL to qualify for the Women’s College World Series, and on Monday night she became the first local player to ever qualify for the WCWS championship series when Texas won back-to-back elimination games against Oklahoma State.

The best-of-three championship series pits the Longhorns against the defending champion Oklahoma Sooners and the action gets under way on Wednesday.

Fortuna High will host a watch party at the school for all three games in the Mary Hanley Theater, and it will be open to any local fans who want to show up

Game one starts at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, with game two at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday and game three (if necessary) at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

Doors open 30 minutes before each game and the Huskies are asking for cash or check donations, with all proceeds going to support Fortuna High softball and local travel players headed to a national tournament this summer.
