By Ray Hamill — The St. Bernard’s Crusaders celebrated an historic NorCal baseball championship this week despite being bumped up three full divisions for the inaugural tournament.
Head coach Matt Tomlin described it as a punch to the gut when the North Coast Section Division-6 champs were moved up to Division 3 for the NorCals, seemingly jeopardizing the team’s season-long goal of winning one of the first-ever NorCal championships.
The players, however, responded in the best way possible, winning three straight games in the bracket, including a thrilling 7-6 win over Alpha Charter in Monday’s championship game at Crusader Field.
“We won the pennant!” a delighted Jeran Ford shouted to his teammates during the postgame celebrations.
You can check out the game highlights above, including a big home run by Aidan Dorsch and a dominating display on the mound by fellow senior Nick Dugan, who struck out 13 batters he faced for the win in relief.
We also have highlights of all the postgame celebrations, capping what has been an incredible season for the team.
