Cal Poly Humboldt Athletics

Collegiate rowers will be in action in the Humboldt Bay this weekend.

The Cal Poly Humboldt women’s and men’s teams will host their home regatta for the first time in three years on Saturday at the Humboldt Bay Aquatic Center in Eureka.

The races get under way at 8 a.m.

In addition to the Jacks, teams from Chico State, Menlo College and Cal Maritime will all travel for the event.

“I am excited to race at home in front of our fans and alumni for the first time in three years,” women’s head coach Matt Weise said. “This event allows our young squad to gain valuable race experience by competing in multiple events.”

The races can be viewed from the waterfront and are expected to conclude around 11 a.m.

“I second Coach Weise; for the men’s club this is our first racing season back on the water,” men’s head coach and women’s assistant coach Ashley Donnell said. “We are elated to share our home waterway with competitors, family, friends and alumni who are coming out for the racing.”

The women’s V8+ was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Women’s Crew of the Week after placing first at the Aggie Invitational and third at the Sacramento State Invitational.
