It was a disappointing night on the North Coast Section volleyball courts for the H-DNL on Wednesday, with five local teams bowing out of the playoffs.

At Arcata High, the Tigers fell in five sets to Fort Bragg in the Division-4 bracket, battling back from an early two-set deficit to force a fifth and deciding frame.

The Big 5 champs lost 21-25, 20-25, 26-24, 25-20, 8-15.

Nora Talty had a big night for the Tigers, finishing with 45 assists and five aces, while teammate Sydney Hasselquist had 17 kills.

Caroline Dieker and Melanie Luh each added seven kills and Abby Costello-Anderson had six.

“Fort Bragg served tough consistently and we played well overall but made quite a few unforced errors,” Arcata head coach Laurie Griffith said. “We are a young team and looking forward to next year.”

Also in the Division-4 bracket, Fortuna fell at San Rafael (12-25, 16-25, 20-25), Del Norte lost at Justin-Siena (14-25, 17-25, 20-25) and McKinleyville lost at University (14-25,12-25, 8-25).

McKinleyville’s Raina Ausburn had a good night at the net, while teammates Allie Egbert and Camryn Pinard both played well defensively.

On Tuesday night, Hoopa also bowed out of the playoffs with a loss at Sonoma Academy.

The one H-DNL team remaining in the postseason is St Bernard’s.

The Little 4 co-champs are seeded No. 3 in Division 6 and received an opening round bye.

The Crusaders will host No. 6 Holy Names on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
