Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – The Hoopa Warriors in action at St. Bernard’s earlier this week.
St. Bernard’s and Hoopa both won again in Little 4 volleyball on Thursday night as they continue to set the standard among the smaller schools.
The conference leading Crusaders topped Ferndale in four sets, but the Wildcats caused them far more problems than the last time the two schools met.
According to St. Bernard’s head coach Wendy Joyner, Ferndale was a much improved team on Thursday.
Kodi Myer had another big night in the win, serving nine aces and dishing out 27 assists.
The ever-consistent and powerful Lele Tanuvasa led the way with 16 kills, while Maddie Shanahan also continued to impress with seven kills.
Teressa Riley, Marcee Davilla, Ella Jimenez and Amaiyah Her each also had a good night passing and digging the ball.
The Crusaders, however, missed on 14 serves, giving them something to work on.
With the win, the Crusaders are now 4-0 in the Little 4 and 7-7 overall.
The Warriors, meanwhile, took care of business against South Fork in straight sets, improving to 3-1 in league and 3-1 overall.
Hoopa was missing a couple of key starters, but Rosie Romero and Tannah O’Rourke both stepped in to fill the void and did a good job.
Tatianna Colegrove was instrumental early in the win, defensively and at the service line, while Nalani Colegrove had a big second set, accounting for 15 of her team’s points.
Deja Coleman also had a good night defensively in the back court, while Savannah Colegrove was a force at the net.
