Jude Ortega won for the second time in two H-DNL cross country meets at Fortuna on Wednesday afternoon.
The Arcata senior continued to set the pace for the boys, placing first in a time of 17 minutes, 59 seconds.
For the second straight week, McKinleyville’s Damian Dinan placed second.
The Panthers sophomore crossed the finish line in a time 19:36, with Northcoast Prep’s Jaxon Peaker third with a time of 20:05.
The Tigers, who had six of the top eight runners, comfortably took the team win over Fortuna in second and Del Norte in third.
A busy Eureka Loggers team did not make the trip with a lot of early-season meets on their schedule.
Arcata’s Luke Moxon, Tobias Sanchez, Reece Thompson, Lucas Blair and Alex Spanos placed fourth through eighth, respectively, followed by Fortuna’s Mathew Hansen in ninth and McKinleyville’s William Hufford in 10th.
The Arcata Tigers dominated the girls race, with several school’s opting not to compete this week.
Ai-Lan McGoldrick placed first in a time of 23:23, followed by teammates Gabrielle Ducate (24:05) and Raven Alvarez (24:07).
Fortuna’s Gabby Crosswhite was fourth, with Arcata’s Lillian Cunningham rounding out the top five.
The next league meet will be hosted by Northcoast Prep at the Arcata Community forest on Wednesday.
