The Humboldt State men’s soccer team moved up one spot to No. 4 in the coaches D-II West Region rankings this week after posting two more wins over the weekend.

The Jacks, who beat Hawaii Pacific 4-0 on Friday and Holy Names 3-0 on Sunday, are now 4-0 on the season and remain the top-ranked California Collegiate Athletic Association team.

Azusa Pacific remains No. 1 in the rankings, followed by Seattle Pacific and Simon Fraser.

The HSU men have dominated defensively early on and have posted four straight shutouts to start the season for the first time since 1989.

Marco Silveira has been instrumental in the early run, scoring three goals and assisting on six more, while Alejandro Lopez also has three goals.

The Jacks will play their home opener on Friday, when they host Simpson University at 3 p.m.

The HSU women, meanwhile, are No. 9 in this week’s coaches poll after going 1-1 in Oregon over the weekend, with a 4-1 victory over Central Washington and a 1-0 loss to Western Oregon.

The Jacks are now 2-1-1 on the season.

Western Washington is ranked No. 1 in the region, with HSU’s CCAA rivals Sonoma State No. 2 and Chico State No. 6.
