Big payouts and track records highlight busy weekend at Redwood Acres

Redwood Acres Raceway crowned its 2021 Late Models champion on a busy weekend at the local track that also saw a pair of records fall.

On Saturday night, points leader David Henderson set the pace in qualifying in the Late Models division and would go on to take the checkered flag in the main event to secure the season title.

Dustin Walters was second with David Miller third, Eugene Palmer fourth and Scott Baker fifth.

Saturday night also featured the Upstate Bombers Series, with Trystan Mucci taking the win in the main event and securing the season championship, while also earning $1,000 for his victory.

On Friday night, Brian Murrell, Jr. set a new record in Mini Stock qualifying (18.467), and would go to win the main event, with Jarrett Mayo, Gannon Cyphers, Jerry Peterson and Eric O’Ferrall rounding out the top five.

The track record in the division would fall again on Saturday night, when Gary Klinetobe posted a18.454.

Cyphers won the main event on Saturday over Klinetobe, Murrell, Jr., Mayo and O’Ferrall.

Ryan David also had a big weekend, posting his first-ever main event win in the Roadrunners division on Friday.

Jeremiah Martin finished second, followed by Nick Ford, Tanisha Ratzlaff and Bob Ratzlaff.

Saturday’s Legends main event, the Legends Of The Redwoods Shootout race, was won by Cody Winchel, who earned a $2000 purse with the victory, with Brandon White second and Cameron Austin third.

That top two was a reversal from Friday night’s main event which was won by White.

Racing action returns to Redwood Acres in two weeks for the final event of the season, which will also be a two-day event.
