Busy weekend for local JV football teams

The St. Bernard’s JVs made it two wins in two games with a comprehensive 28-0 victory over Hoopa in football in Eureka on Saturday.

Dylan Jimenez and Tyler Maples both scored their first-ever high school touchdowns in the win, as the Crusaders continue to enjoy a return to JV football for the first time in four years.

Two players in particular continued to be a force on the defensive side of the ball for SB, with Ethan Hagler and Paca Davila both turning in monster games for the second straight week.

The Del Norte JVs also had a good night on Friday, improving to 3-0 with a 42-0 win at West Valley, while at Fortuna the Huskies JVs improved to 2-0 with a 26-6 win over Kelseyville.

Fortuna’s Tegan Rumley returned a kickoff 90 yards for a TD in the win, while also scoring on a 19-yard TD reception from quarterback Chad Mussey.

The Eureka JVs also won 13-0 at home to Ukiah in their season opener, while the McKinleyville JVs suffered their first loss in three games this year, falling 27-0 at home to Willits.

The Ferndale JVs, meanwhile, played their season opener, but lost to visiting Fall River on Saturday.
