After dropping two straight games at San Luis Obispo last weekend, the Humboldt Crabs have responded with three straight wins, including a 14-2 victory over the Solano Mudcats on Friday night.
The two clubs continue a three-game series on Saturday night at 7 p.m., before closing out the weekend with a July Fourth matchup at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The Crabs, who have scored 50 runs in their three wins this week, are now 16-4 on the season.
Gabe Giosso continues to impress for the team, finishing 5-for-6 with a double in Friday night’s win.
The three local players on this year’s team also continued to impress this week.
On Tuesday night, the Crabs defeated the NorCal Warriors 21-2, and followed that with a 15-0 win over the same team on Wednesday.
St. Bernard’s graduate Caleb Ruiz got the win on the mound on Tuesday, improving to 3-0 on the summer in four appearances.
Ruiz threw five innings, allowing one earned run on four hits and one walk, while striking out seven.
Ruiz has been busy, pitching 18 innings this season and allowing just one earned run for an ERA of 0.50.
He also has struck out 25, while walking just eight.
Former Eureka Loggers Ethan Fischel and Aidan Morris also have impressed this summer.
Morris was 3-for-4 in Wednesday’s win, and is now batting .244 on the season with a team-best 15 walks.
And he’s made those walks count, scoring 14 runs, third best on this year’s team.
Fischel, meanwhile, was 2-for-4 with two doubles in Wednesday’s win, and is now batting .259.
The Crabs’ two losses at San Luis Obispo were both by one run.
