The Northern Humboldt Giants suffered their first loss of the new American Legion baseball season on Saturday, falling 6-3 to the Redding Vipers in Arcata.
The visitors, who lost three games to the GIants in Redding last weekend, scored four runs in the second inning and made them count in a tight game.
After starting slowly, the Giants had their chances later in the game.
They loaded the bases in the fourth and fifth innings, but they were unable to get a key hit when they needed it.
Vincent Agliolo and Will Mager each finished with two hits in the loss, while Finn McRea had a double.
Brody Mattz took the loss on the mound, pitching five innings, with McRea tossing the final two innings in relief.
Jared Dixon, Austin Brown and William Bommelyn each also had a hit for the Giants, who are now 6-1.
The Giants play two games on Sunday, against the Southern Humboldt 76ers and Red Bluff.
