Young Eureka players step up in overtime victory at Mack

Despite missing seven varsity players, the Eureka Loggers won their fourth straight game to close out the H-DNL basketball season on Saturday, edging McKinleyville 56-55 in overtime.

Amaya Gee led the way offensively for Eureka, scoring a team-high 11 points in the win, while Ellie Pesch and Aniah Gaither each scored 10.

Kaylee Armstrong scored a game-high 19 points for the Panthers, who close out the three-week season 2-7.

Cameron Heenan added 16 points for the Mack girls, while teammate Kathryn Tinney had nine points.

Graduation, injuries and other commitments left the Loggers missing numerous players, but head coach Michael Harvey brought several talented JVs up to the varsity squad for the finale, including Kaitlin Giacone, who finished with nine points.

Senior Maddie Woods chipped in six points in her final high school game.

The Loggers close out with a record of 7-2.
