By Ray Hamill — A good week for College of the Redwoods football got even better on Wednesday, with three more local all-league players committing to play for the team when it returns in the fall of 2022.
Just days after 19 local standouts committed to the team at a big signing ceremony on Saturday, Del Norte’s Kaleb Price and South Fork’s Graham McConnell and Sean Hassall-Hoss all signed their letters on Wednesday.
Price was a first-team all-league selection this spring after playing a pivotal role for the Warriors at receiver and safety and is expected to play tight end for the Corsairs.
The multi-talented athlete also plans on playing basketball for the Corsairs beginning in 2022.
The senior standout is enjoying a big season with the Del Norte boys basketball team and is one of this week’s Humboldt Sports Athletes of the Week.
The two South Fork teammates, meanwhile, will bring a winning mentality after enjoying plenty of success at the small school in recent years, including a short undefeated season this spring.
Hassall-Hoss started at quarterback for the Cubs for the past two seasons, while McConnell was a force at running back and linebacker.
The talented trio joins Saturday’s group of commits, which included 12 all-league selections, giving the Corsairs a good foundation to build on for 2022.
The local college suspended the program in July of last year for budgetary reasons, before reinstating the team earlier this year on the condition there would be a greater emphasis on academics and local recruitment.
New head coach Jason White said he expects to have more than 40 local players when the team takes to the field in 14 months time.
The new recruits are expected to be on campus in the spring, when preparations will begin in earnest for the new season.
