ATHLETES AND TEAM OF THE WEEK — Consistency the key for Tanuvasa and Price

By Ray Hamill — The Del Norte Warriors feature heavily in this week’s Athletes and Team of the Week, sponsored by College of the Redwoods Athletics.

Del Norte senior Kaleb Price is enjoying an outstanding season on the basketball courts, leading the way on a talented Warriors team.

Price is coming off a big week with three impressive performances, which makes him one of our athletes of the week.

Another local basketball player who is enjoying a stellar campaign is St. Bernard’s Lele Tanuvasa.

The standout sophomore leads the way on a young St. Bernard’s girls team and has been a consistent threat for the Crusaders.

And rounding out this week’s awards is the Del Norte wrestling team.

The Warriors capped another big season with a dominating display at the league championships over the weekend, winning a total of 10 individual titles.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Kaleb Price

Del Norte Basketball, Senior

Price has been a constant threat for the Warriors this year and appears to be getting stronger as the season moves on.

In three games over the past week, the senior standout had 48 points and 44 rebounds, posting double-doubles against St. Bernard’s, Eureka and McKinleyville.

Price and the Warriors close out their season against Fortuna on Thursday.

Lele Tanuvasa

St. Bernard’s Basketball, Sophomore

Tanuvasa is arguably the best player on the North Coast this year and certainly the standout performer in the Little 4.

In her last four games, the sensational sophomore has averaged 23.5 points, including scoring 28 in a loss to Arcata.

She has been extremely consistent and a leader on a young St. Bernard’s team that will continue to be a force for the next couple of years.
