McKinleyville girls continue to roll against Fortuna

McKinleyville junior Raina Ausburn held a dangerous Fortuna lineup to just two hits on Wednesday, as the Panthers won 12-1 in H-DNL softball.

Ausburn pitched all six innings, allowing two walks and no earned runs, while striking out seven.

She got plenty of help from a McKinleyville offense that racked up four runs in the top of the first to give the pitcher a nice cushion.

The Huskies hung tough for much of the game after that, before the Panthers pulled away late with five runs in the sixth.

McKinleyville’s Allie Egbert had a big day at the plate, finishing with a home run and a triple, while teammate Camryn PInard also had a home run.

Ashley Ballew also had two hits, including a double, and four RBIs, while Cameron Heenan, Kennedy Minton and Taya Gomes each also had a double.

Libby Johnston and Kylee Fennell each had a hit for the Huskies, who dropped to 4-8.

The win was the ninth straight for the Panthers, who are now 9-3.

The two teams meet again in a season-ending doubleheader this weekend at McKinleyville.
