Hailey Dolcini pitched her third and fourth straight shutouts over the weekend, as the Fresno State Bulldogs took a big step towards a Mountain West Conference championship.
Dolcini has been on fire all season in the pitcher’s circle for the red-hot Bulldogs and was last week named as one of 25 finalists for USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year.
She followed that with two more outstanding performances over the weekend, as the Fresno State women swept three games against Nevada, the third-placed team in the Mountain West Conference.
The Bulldogs are 14-1 in conference and atop the standings with just three weekends of action remaining.
This coming weekend they play three games against second-placed UNLV (15-3) in a key series for both teams.
In two games against Nevada, Dolcini struck out a combined 23 batters and allowed nine hits.
The former Fortuna standout and four-time Big 5 MVP is now 17-3 on the season with an impressive 13 shutouts.
She has displayed remarkable control in recent weeks, allowing just two free passes — one walk and one hit batsmen — in the past seven games, six of which have been shutouts.
Dolcini also has nine or more strikeouts in nine of her past 11 games.
The Bulldogs have won 13 straight, including six straight shutouts, to put themselves in contention for a conference championship.
They are now 30-7 on the season.
