Humboldt State announced on Monday morning that the Lumberjacks softball team has been put on “interim suspension” while the school investigates a possible hazing incident on the team.
According to a press release, the Jacks are “investigating the women’s intercollegiate softball team for alleged hazing, as well as other possible violations of student and athletic codes of conduct.”
All team athletics-related activities, including the upcoming week of competition, will be postponed pending the results of the investigation.
“Hazing is both illegal and violates HSU’s student and athletic codes of conduct,” the press release said. “HSU takes issues of hazing very seriously and the welfare of student athletes is the priority at this time.
“HSU’s Office of the Dean of Students has taken the lead role in the investigation, with close cooperation from Intercollegiate Athletics & Recreational Sports.
“Due to privacy laws, the details of the investigation related to specific individuals will not be made public.”
