By Ray Hamill — Former St. Bernard’s and Humboldt Eagles teammates Caleb Ruiz and Hunter Davis have been reunited in Oregon.
The standout duo are both playing for Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, with the team getting the spring season under way over the weekend.
The RiverHawks won three of four games against Southwestern Oregon, with Ruiz impressing in his appearance on Sunday.
The 2019 St. Bernard’s graduate pitched five innings of one-hit ball in relief, taking the mound in the third inning.
Ruiz also walked three and struck out three, and did not allow any runs.
The RiverHawks would go on to lose the game 12-5 after giving up seven late runs after Ruiz was pulled.
Ruiz played briefly with College of the Redwoods last spring before transferring to Umpqua.
Davis, meanwhile, did not play over the weekend, but is expected back on the field soon and has impressed coming back so quickly from an ACL injury he suffered a year ago at the end of the basketball season.
Davis is Ruiz’s former high school catcher and graduated from St. Bernard’s in 2020.
The RiverHawks will be back in action this weekend in a four-game stand against Lane.
