A trio of Eureka Loggers appear to be hitting top form at the right time in boys tennis, with the H-DNL championships just a few days away.
On Thursday, the Loggers swept all three matches against Ferndale, including two in straight sets.
The closest match of the day featured Eureka’s Ryan Chapman and Ferndale’s Seth Regli at No. 3 singles, which went the distance before Chapman edged out a 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 win.
“Once he settled in and learned his opponent’s game, he made the necessary adjustments to dominate and get the win,” Eureka head coach Lilly Copeland said of Chapman, who has been involved in several close matches this season.
At No. 1 singles, Eureka’s Tyler Petrusha appears to be growing stronger as the season moves on, getting the better of Ferndale’s Charlie Lockett, 6-0, 6-0.
“His serves were on fire, per usual,” Copeland said of her No. 1 player.
At No. 2 singles, Eureka’s Kishan Patel also continues to impress and grow, defeating Ferndale’s Dayton Comer, 6-0, 6-2.
“Kishan played some of his best tennis today,” Copeland said. “He was all over the court , from hitting a smooth shot on the baseline to attacking the net, to chasing down a lob. He was untouchable.”
On Saturday, both teams close out the regular season, with the Loggers hosting Del Norte and the Wildcats hosting North Coast Prep.
Also in action on Saturday, McKinleyville plays at St. Bernard’s and Fortuna plays at Arcata.
The league championships will take place next week at Arcata, with the Nos. 4-6 singles playing on Wednesday and the Nos. 1-3 on Saturday.
