The Eureka Loggers have been busy recently on the wrestling mats, and continued to impress at a girls four-team dual meet tournament at Ukiah High over the weekend.

The Loggers won all four dual matches, defeating Willits (72-18), Windsor (48-30), Fort Bragg (51-22) and Ukiah (42-30), to take the first-place trophy.

Six Eureka wrestlers went undefeated in all four matches, including seniors Yareli Rendon (139 pounds) and Aracely Rendon (189), as well as juniors Natalie Arachi (118), Sarah Grow (118), Slate Delsman (123) and Helena Rogers (160).

Some of the Eureka girls wrestled up a weight in order to “maximize the experience,” according to head coach Cecil Wilson.

Also last week, the Loggers won their only H-DNL dual meet of the season, 38-18 over Del Norte, the only other local high school program with a full girls team.

Leading the way was Aracely Rendon, one of the top-ranked wrestlers in the state, who moved up from 189 to face off against Del Norte standout Danika Scott at 235.

Both seniors qualified for last year’s prestigious state meet, and the showdown didn’t disappoint, with Rendon edging out an 8-6 in sudden death.

“Each wrestler exhibited the quality of both schools putting up two talented wrestlers with above average skills,” Wilson said of the match.

The Warriors started strong, posting wins at 108 and 113, before the Loggers started to take control with consecutive pins by Arachi (118), Grow (123) and Delsman (128).
