It took a few weeks longer than hoped for, but a young Eureka Loggers team got a much-needed 32-7 win at Montgomery on Friday night.
The Loggers looked dangerous from the outset and could have been two touchdowns up after their opening two possessions but for missed opportunities.
Quarterback Trevor Bell, however, gave his team the breakthrough on a 15-yard TD run and the Loggers added a second score on a 60-yard TD pass from Bell to Trent Morrow.
They led the Vikings 21-7 at halftime.
“It was a great performance for a young team,” Eureka head coach Jason White said. “Our offensive line had its best game. They played very physical and gave our quarterback a ton of time.”
Senior running back Antorious Bell earned more carries after a big week of practice, and he didn’t disappoint, scoring on a 10-yard run.
Lamarie Dunn added a 15-yard TD run and Menga Vang added two field goals to round out the scoring.
Vang also had a big game in the defensive backfield, coming away with a pair of interceptions.
Lineman Sky Barone also had a big game on both sides of the ball, as the Loggers set a physical tone.
“And Chase Steubing was a beast,” White added.
The Loggers had a couple of early setbacks on offense, getting the ball punched out of a player’s hands on the opening drive on what appeared to be a certain touchdown, and wasting another opportunity on the second drive on a dropped pass.
After that, however, everything started to go right for the Loggers, who gradually pulled away and improved to 1-3 on the season.
