McKinleyville’s Ingrid Monaghan got league play off to an impressive start in girls golf on Wednesday.
The H-DNL girls traveled to Benbow for the opening round and it was Monaghan who recorded the low score of the day.
The Panthers standout, who placed fourth in the final league standings in 2025, shot a 102 to lead the field by four strokes in the first of seven rounds of league play.
It was also a good start to league competition for Arcata and defending league champion Del Norte.
The Tigers had the next two best scores of the day and four of the top seven to comfortable take the team win.
Sabrina Macdonald had the second best score of the day with a round of 106, followed by teammate Quetzal Heacock with a 108.
The Arcata girls combined for a score of 452, followed by Del Norte (479), with Fortuna and McKinleyville tying for third (504), followed by Eureka in fifth with a score of 530.
The Del Norte girls had the fourth and fifth best individual rounds of the day.
Jaylee Keeling, who placed second to league champion and teammate Bria Larson in the race for last year’s championship, shot a 110, followed by Kalyssa Moodie, who carded a 116.
Arcata’s Stella Mielke had the next best score of the day with a 118, followed by teammate Hailey Pepper and Fortuna’s Zoie Thompson, who each finished with a round of 120 and tied for seventh.
McKinleyville’s Ava Sundberg and Fortuna’s Alexa Mccall rounded out the top 10 on the day with rounds of 123.
League play continues on Monday at Baywood Golf & Country Club.
