By Ray Hamill — The Fortuna Huskies will be looking to continue the momentum from last week’s impressive win when they play at Stellar Prep in the Bay Area on Friday.
The Huskies turned in arguably their most impressive performance of the season in beating Del Norte 62-32 and improving to 4-2 on the season.
This week, they head to Oakland to play the Thunder, who have struggled to a 1-4 record.
For comparison purposes, the Thunder are ranked No. 496 in California by MaxPreps, while Fortuna is 241.
“On film, they’re big and fast and athletic,” Fortuna head coach Mike Benbow said of the Thunder. “It seems like we’ve been facing the same teams all year.”
Stellar Prep is a Division-5 school, but is ranked No. 2 in the North Coast Section, behind Kelseyville and seven spots ahead of Hoopa Valley.
Balanced Huskies offense
Senior quarterback Zac Claus continues to lead the way on a balanced Huskies offense, and now has 940 yards passing on the season, with 10 touchdown passes and only two interceptions.
Claus also has two TDs on the ground.

The Huskies are 4-2 on the season.
Benbow has a wealth of weapons at his disposal on offense, including HumboldtSports.com Athlete of the Week Joey Pontes and sophomore standout Levi Nyberg.
The duo accounted for seven TDs between them last week.
The Huskies also dominated along both lines in the win.
And this week, Benbow will be looking for more of the same from his players.
“I hope we can continue on our progress,” the head coach said. “I think we played real well last week and we had a good week of practice.”
Friday’s game is set for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on The Mix 95.1 FM and The Edge 106.7 FM.
