Both Olivia Stone and Joey Pontes turned in impressive performances for their respective teams last week, as they have been doing all season.

And that gets them the nod for the first HumboldtSports.com Athletes of the Week.

Hoopa Valley football, meanwhile, also had a big week, earning the Warriors the nod for Team of the Week.

Joey Pontes

Fortuna Football, Senior

Pontes is enjoying an outstanding senior campaign with the Huskies, leading the team in total offensive yards (501) and touchdowns (nine), while also making a big impact defensively.

On Friday, Pontes scored four touchdowns in a statement 62-32 win over Del Norte, two of them on runs and two on receptions, while racking up 177 yards of offense.

Olivia Stone

Eureka Soccer, Senior

Stone has led the way on a dominating Eureka girls team, which is a perfect 6-0 on the season and has yet to allow a goal.

The dynamic senior captain was instrumental in wins over Ferndale and Arcata, scoring in the later to bring her tally to 11 on the season, to go with seven assists, both team highs.

Hoopa Valley Football

The Warriors defeated Ferndale for the first time in 23 years on Friday night, a span of 42 consecutive games.

That was impressive on its own, but more importantly the win announced the Warriors (3-2) as serious contenders for the Little 4.
