Citro and Sundberg continue to lead the way in girls golf

The McKinleyville duo of Molly Citro and Phoebe Sundberg continued their season-long battle on the golf course on Monday, with another one-two finish.

The fourth Humboldt-Del Norte League meet of the season produced the third time the dynamic duo has occupied the top two spots.

This time it was Sundberg who took the win, her second of the year, shooting a season-best 77 at the Redwood Empire Golf and Country Club in Fortuna.

Citro, who shot a 78, retains a three-stroke lead over Sundberg (235-238) in the season standings.

Citro also has two wins this year, and shares the season-best score with a 77 on the opening week of the campaign at Eureka.

Arcata’s Avary Henry shot a third-best 82 on Monday, and remains third in the season standings (257), while McKinleyville’s Isabella Sundberg was fourth with a 91, completing the Panthers’ dominance on the day.

Isabella Sundberg, who was the only other golfer to shoot under 100, remains fourth in the season standings, four strokes back of Henry.

Arcata’s Kate Plumley was fifth on the day with a 106, and is tied with McKinleyville’s Jayme Willis for fifth in the overall standings (328), giving the Panthers four golfers in the top six.

The H-DNL, which has three rounds remaining, will play next at Beau Pre in McKinleyville on Monday.
