Career night for Humphries as Crabs open final series strong

Friday night was one Chyran Humphries won’t easily forget.

The Humboldt Crabs left fielder enjoyed a career night to lead his team to a dominating 19-4 win over the Placer County Peloteros at the Arcata Ball Park.

Humphries exploded at the plate for three home runs, finishing 3-for-3 with six RBIs and three runs and he also walked twice.

He was one of two Crabs with at least three hits in the win.

Adam Enyart also had a big night for the home team, finishing 4-for-6 with a triple, a double, three RBIs and four runs.

Alex Harrington and Kawana Soares each also had two hits in the win as the Crabs out-hit the Peloteros 14-3.

The Crabs started the game strong, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first to take control, and would add four more runs in the second to lead 10-2.

After that there was ho way back for Placer County, as the Crabs continued to add to their lead throughout the night and scored runs in six of the first seven innings they went to bat.

McKinleyville’s Jackson Kelly got the win on the mound.

The Crabs starting pitcher threw four strong innings, giving up no earned runs on two hits and three walks and striking out four.

It was the fifth start of the summer for Kelly, who finished up 4-0 with an ERA of .3.92.

With the win, the Crabs improved to 38-13.

The two clubs will continue their three-game series on Saturday night, with first pitch set for 6:30, before closing out the weekend on Sunday afternoon.
