By Ray Hamill — Get ready for a busy couple of weeks in District All-Star play, with four local Little League tournaments about to get under way.
Three of the four upcoming tournaments will begin on Saturday, including the District Junior League teams, with a fourth set to get under way next week.
The Junior tournament will be hosted by Eel River at Bartow Field in Fortuna.
The double-elimination tournament will feature three teams, Eel River, McKinleyville and Redwood Empire.
There will be one game on opening day, with McKinleyville facing off against Redwood Empire, with first pitch set for noon.
The hosts will play the winner of that game on Sunday at noon.
The championship round begins on Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m., followed by a second championship showdown on Wednesday, if needed.
The area’s 10-year-old and 11-year-old All-Stars, meanwhile, will also begin their tournaments this weekend.
Both of those tournaments will be hosted by McKinleyville and both tournaments will feature four county teams.
Opening day will feature two games in each tournament.
In 10s action, McKinleyville will play Redwood Empire at 10 a.m., followed by Klamath Trinity and Eel River at 3 p.m.
In 11s action, McKinleyville will play Eel River at 12:30 p.m., followed by Redwood Empire and Southern Humboldt at 5:30 p.m.
The first championship game for both tournaments will be played on Tuesday, followed by a second championship on Wednesday, if necessary.
The 10s will play their final on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., followed by the 11s at 5:30 p.m.
The District 12-year-old All-Stars will begin their tournament next Friday and it will hosted by Redwood Empire.
Six local associations will be represented, including Southern Humboldt, Klamath Trinity, Redwood Empire, McKinleyville, Eel River and Arcata.
