The Northern Humboldt Giants got the new summer season off to a winning start on Tuesday with a 3-2 victory over the Humboldt Eagles.
And the Kees brothers played a big role in the win for the 17U American Legion club and new head coach Brandon Coborn.
Fresh off an impressive spring playing for Arcata High, Tanner Kees had the hot bat for the game and finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a home run.
The standout catcher also called a good game behind the plate, according to Coborn, and added three stolen bases as well as two runs.
His younger brother, Rylan, also impressed in the season opener.
The younger sibling, who was arguably the most impressive freshman pitcher in the HDN this spring, got the start on the mound and threw three good innings.
Gavin Anderson and Jerry Griffin each also pitched in relief for the Giants, while Carson Hicks pitched the final inning for the save.
No stats were immediately available for the Eagles.
The Giants will be back in action on Thursday, when they host the Southern Humboldt 76ers at Arcata High.
Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
