The Tigers ended a five-game losing streak and posted their first Big 5 win on Friday, getting the better of Fortuna 12-0 in six innings at Arcata High School.

Gavin Anderson pitched a two-hitter for the win on the mound and Emilio Medina hit a grand slam to lead the Tigers to the victory.

With the win, they improved to 1-3 in the Big 5 and 6-10 overall, while the Huskies dropped to 0-6 and 1-13.

“We had some kids that swung the bat well at the top of the order and at the bottom of the order,” Arcata head coach Troy Ghisetti said. “Defensively, I thought we struggled a little bit, but we were able to come out on top.”

Anderson gave up just the two hits and a walk and also struck out three in a complete-game performance.

Medina hit one of two home runs for the home team, finishing 3-for-4 with the grand slam, while senior teammate Tanner Kees continued to play a key role and finished 3-for-3, while also hitting a home run.

Max Dixon also made some noise at the plate for the Tigers and finished 2-for-3, while Joe Wellick was 1-for-1 and Darion Rex fished 1-for-3.

Cam McClendon and Tanner Franklin each had a base hit for the visitors.

No other stats were immediately available for the Huskies.
