It was a good day for some former H-DNL athletes at Saturday’s Cal Poly Humboldt Invitational at the Redwood Bowl.

The meet featured five colleges, including Chico State, and saw the return of Laila Florvilus to the North Coast.

The recent St. Bernard’s graduate and 2025 Humboldt Sports Little 4 Girls Athlete of the year placed first in the women’s high jump.

Florvilus cleared 1.57 meters.

In the throwing events, former Eureka Logger Joseph Gonzalez continued his impressive start to the new season.

After breaking a 33-year-old Lumberjacks record in the men’s shot put with a throw of 53 feet, 7.75 inches (16.35 meters) earlier in the month, Gonzalez set a new Cal Poly Humboldt mark in the event with a throw of 55’ 9.75’ (17.01m).

In addition to being a new program record, Saturday’s throw is a D-II qualifying provisional mark.

Gonzalez also placed second in the discus with a throw of 47.18m (154’ 9”).

Former McKinleyville Panther Derek Ray also enjoyed an impressive day for Cal Poly Humboldt.

Ray placed eighth in the shot put with a throw of 13.51m (44’ 4”) and placed ninth in the discus with a throw of 41.73m (136’ 11”).
