By Ray Hamill — The accolades continue for St. Bernard’s senior Liam Dyer after his outstanding final season on the high school courts.

The Crusaders standout beat out a deep pool of finalists to be named the 2025/26 Humboldt Sports Boys Basketball Player of the Year, following back-to-back conference MVP awards as a junior and senior.

This year Dyer capped a memorable four-year varsity career by leading the Crusaders to a dominating regular season that saw them win 22 games and go undefeated in the Little 4 conference.

And he earns the award for his overall play and basketball IQ.

“Liam had a sensational year topping off an incredible career at St. Bernard’s,” his head coach Pat Shanahan said after Dyer was named MVP of the Little 4 a few weeks back.

The three-time all-league selection averaged 21 points, eight rebounds and three assists a game this year, and he set himself apart from his peers with an incredible night shooting the ball in late January, when he scored a career-high 52 points at Arcata High in a game he will never forget.

But his sharpshooting ability is just a part of what makes him a special player.

“Liam is known for scoring a lot of points and that is clearly true,” Shanahan added “What doesn’t make the box score is his decision making.

“His basketball intelligence is incredibly advanced for his age, and his ability to read defenses in a timely fashion helped his team have success.”

He also leaves a legacy that will be difficult to top at St. Bernard’s.

In addition to his two MVP awards and being named Humboldt Sports Player of the year, Dyer also played a pivotal role in leading the Crusaders to three straight league titles, as well as North Coast Section and NorCal championships as a junior.

Congratulations to Liam Dyer for all of his accomplishments on the local high school basketball courts and for being named the 2025/26 Humboldt Sports Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

Dyer will continue his playing career at the college level after graduation this year, and as a player of his quality he is receiving plenty of interest.
