All three local college baseball and softball teams will be on the road this week, as they all continue their early-season schedule.
The College of the Redwoods women will have the opportunity to avenge two early-season softball losses to American River when they play the Beavers as part of a Friday doubleheader at American River that also includes a game against San Mateo.
The American River women swept a competitive doubleheader against Redwoods two weeks ago, 6-2 and 6-3.
The CR women followed that with a 3-3 road trip this past weekend.
They opened with back-to-back losses to Cabrillo (7-2 and 11-8), before sweeping a doubleheader against Porterville, winning 6-4 and 8-5.
They closed out a busy few days with a doubleheader split against Coalinga, losing game one 8-6, but bouncing back to take game two 10-8 in nine innings.
Redwoods is now 5-6-1 on the season.
The CR men, meanwhile, hosted for the second straight week last week, playing a three-game series against unbeaten Ohlone and dropping all three games by scores of 19-8, 16-2 and 15-2.
The unbeaten Renegades improved to 9-0, while CR dropped to 1-8.
In game one, CR’s Addisson Guber finished 1-for-5 with two RBIs and Kamole Gilliland finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and two walks.
Guber added another hit in game two, while in game three Gilliland went 1-for-3.
Tristen Valenzuela pitched 5.2 innings in the series finale and struck out five.
“Ohlone is a true powerhouse of a program and we will learn from each outcome,” CR head coach John Downey said. “It is a small bump in our still young season that has barely gotten under way.
“We have another opportunity to get ourselves on the right track (this week). At the end of the day, the more we execute the better shot we give ourselves to win ball games.”
Redwoods will be back in action on Thursday and Friday, playing a four-game series at Los Medanos (4-3), with two games on each day.
The Cal Poly Humboldt women, meanwhile, are in Hawaii this week.
The Lumberjacks dropped a pair of one-run softball games against Hawaii Hilo on Tuesday, falling 5-4 and 7-6 in eight innings.
With the two defeats, the Humboldt women dropped to 3-7 on the young season, with four of their seven losses coming by the narrowest of margins.
The Jacks, who have lost five straight, will try to get back to winning ways when they play a doubleheader at Hawaii Pacific on Friday.
