Named after the legendary Dick Niclai, the annual H-DNL postseason tournament is one of the most anticipated events of the year on the North Coast sporting calendar.
The annual tournament features the best boys and girls teams in the H-DNL, and this year it runs for four nights, culminating with Friday night’s championship games at Lumberjack Arena.
First-round action takes place at various high schools around Humboldt County on Monday night, with the semifinals, as usual, hosted by College of the Redwoods on Tuesday and Thursday.
The championship games will take place at Cal Poly Humboldt’s Lumberjack Arena.
For decades, Niclai had a huge impact on the game here on the North Coast in a wide range of roles, serving as head coach of the Humboldt State (now Cal Poly Humboldt) men’s basketball team, as the H-DNL Commissioner and as commissioner of the H-DNL Basketball Officials Association.
In 1982, Niclai proposed a league postseason tournament, traditionally referred to as a “Shaughnessy Tournament,” which was renamed in his honor after his death in 1996.

I believe that Ferndale Ladies will be playing Arcata, not Hoopa 🙂
Will it be livestreamed? If so, where?
