The Cal Poly Humboldt women saw their championship hopes take a big hit on Saturday, as they fell to Chico State for the second time in three days.

The Lumberjacks came into the week in a three-way tie with Chico and Cal Poly Pomona for the CCAA lead, but the two losses drops them two wins back of the two frontrunners in the standings.

They lost on Saturday by a score of 67-42.

Former St. Bernard’s Laila Florvilus, who is a freshman at Chico, didn’t see any court time in Thursday’s game at Lumberjack Arena, but she did feature on Saturday and made her presence felt in limited time in the blowout win.

The 2025 SB graduate, who will also compete in track and field at Chico, scored five points in just two minutes.

The win lifts the Wildcats to 10-0 in the CCAA (14-2 overall), while Humboldt fell to 8-2 (10-6 overall).

The Pomona women, who will travel to Lumberjack Arena for another big game on Thursday, beat Cal State San Bernardino 65-55 on Saturday and also are 10-0 in conference.

After an exciting overtime showdown in Arcata on Thursday night, which the Wildcats won 61-59 on a buzzer-beater, Saturday’s game was nowhere near as close.

Just two points separated the two teams after the opening quarter, but the Wildcats would outscore the visitors in all four quarters, holding the Jacks to just 15 points over the second and third quarters combined.

The 42 points was a season-low for the Humboldt women.

Shade Satica was the only Humboldt player to have double digits in scoring, finishing with 11 points and seven rebounds.
