St. Bernard’s and Ferndale won conference matchups in girls basketball on Friday night.

The Crusaders hosted South Fork and won 73-9, while the Wildcats hosted Hoopa and prevailed 57-35.

With the win, which was their sixth straight, the SB girls improved to 2-0 in the Little 4 and 13-4 overall, while Ferndale kept the pressure on the conference frontrunners and improved to 1-1 and 12-7.

All 10 of the Crusaders scored in the win, including freshman Paige Cherry, who got her first varsity basket.

Samantha Sundberg led the way offensively for the home team and scored a game-high 16 points, while teammate Carli Baum also continued to impress and finished with 13 points.

Kayla Maples added nine points in the win, Malia Masayos had eight points, Tally Williams scored seven, Sariah Vainuku scored six and Alyssa Boham five.

Next up, the Crusaders will host Arcata on Saturday night in a showdown between two of the best teams in the H-DNL and a rematch of last year’s thrilling Dick Niclai championship game.

Tip off is set for 7 p.m.

With the loss, the South Fork girls dropped to 0-2 in the Little 4.

The Cubs were coming off two wins this week, beating Potter Valley 37-28 and Anderson Valley 34-29.

Ferndale 57, Hoopa 35

The Wildcats bounced back from a tough run with a big win over Little 4 rivals Hoopa.

The Ferndale girls came into the game having dropped five of their previous six games, but quickly put that behind them.

They also welcomed back freshman Abagail Gossi after she had missed much of the last month through injury, and the young player had an immediate impact in limited time.

“With her it makes us deeper,” Ferndale head coach Chris Ardrey said. “When we play the bigger schools, depth usually hurts us, so it’ll be nice to have her back. Abi makes us a better team.”

The team captains had a big say in Friday’s win.

Michaela Ellsmore scored a team-high 15 points, while Madison Gossi added 12 points and Tinnley Pidgeon finished with 11 points.

“Any time my three captains score in double digits I really like our chances,” Ardrey said.

No stats were immediately available for the Warriors, who dropped to 1-1 in the Little 4 and 7-12 overall.
